Top players plan to participate in bowl

No. 18 Mississippi State has four potential first round draft picks on its roster – but center Elgton Jenkins, safety Johnathan Abram and defensive linemen Montez Sweat and Jeffery Simmons have said that they will suit up for the Bulldogs against Iowa in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1.

“We had those discussions and the guys communicated to us that they’re going to be playing in the game,” said MSU coach Joe Moorhead. “Unless something changes, we feel comfortable and confident that those guys are going to be ready to roll on the first.”

Simmons (37), Sweat (41) and quarterback Nick Fitzgerald (91) are ranked among the top 100 prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft by CBS Sports.

Simmons is the lone underclassmen among that group has not yet indicated if he will enter the draft early or return for his senior season in Starkville.
