As Ole Miss offensive coordinator Phil Longo pursues his “chasing space” offense, he admits that sometimes he considers chasing it at more of a jog than a sprint.

Through two games the Rebels lead the SEC in passing offense and scoring.

They’ll receive their biggest challenge of the young season this week against Alabama.

While the Rebels lead in scoring, they’re last in the SEC in scoring defense and in total defense rank No. 123 out of 128 FBS teams with 557.5 yards allowed per game.

Ole Miss quarterback Jordan Ta’amu is completing 67 percent of his pass attempts with seven touchdowns and no interceptions.

Scoring too fast puts the defense back out on the field with less time to rest and make adjustments. That’s something the Ole Miss coaching staff has considered but, as of yet, hasn’t acted upon.

If the offense is going to intentionally slow down, perhaps call more run plays, it will happen with guidance from Luke.
